Once called Floral Beach, the area took the Surfside Beach name in 1952. Its town-owned concrete fishing pier stretches 814 feet into the Atlantic with restaurants, an ice cream shop and bait and tackle, and the town lists 36 beach access points and 12 beach-area parking lots. Each fall the town hosts the Surfside Beach Fall Family Festival on Surfside Drive. South of the town limits, the beach continues as unincorporated, county-managed Garden City Beach.
