Pawleys IslandPawleys Island is a small incorporated town in Georgetown County on a barrier island less than four miles long and mostly one house wide, reached by two short causeways across the salt marsh. Rice-planter families began summering here in the early 1700s, and the Pawleys Island Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1972, keeps summer houses dating from about 1780. The town incorporated in 1985 and passed an ordinance forbidding commercial establishments. Its own comprehensive plan separates the town from the unincorporated Pawleys Island community on the mainland, which makes up much of what a Pawleys Island home search returns. Murrells InletMurrells Inlet, South Carolina, is an unincorporated coastal community on the Waccamaw Neck. Its Census-designated place lies in Georgetown County, but Murrells Inlet addresses also continue north into Horry County, so the home search spans both counties. Georgetown County calls it the seafood capital of South Carolina and home to the MarshWalk, a half-mile wooden boardwalk along a saltwater estuary. The city's Parks and Grounds division manages more than 240 beach accesses, and Main Street hosts the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade & Festival, which the city calls the largest parade on the Grand Strand. Away from the ocean, the city's Park & Sports Complex adds ball fields, a dog park, playgrounds and a 25-acre lake.
